ANALISIS KEBUTUHAN DESAIN PEMBELAJARAN MATEMATIKA UNTUK MENGEMBANGKAN KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR KRITIS SISWA

Abstract


Mathematics learning in the current era provides demands and challenges for educators in designing learning that can stimulate students actively. This is done to find knowledge from the thought process and learning experience it goes through. So the purpose of this research is to analyze mathematics learning design needs to develop students’ critical thinking skills. This type of research is a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The subjects in this study were class VIII C students of SMP Negeri 14 Yogyakarta. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique, namely class VIII C and VIII D by considering the lowest average and the highest average from the results of the Final Semester Assessment (PAS). Data collection techniques used observations, interviews, preliminary study questionnaires, PAS results, and fesfs. The results showed that: (1) student achievement in mathematics subjects tended to be low (2) based on the results of PAS as many as 89% of students were still incomplete (3) The results of observations and interviews showed the teacher‘s role in designing learning did not pay attention to initial understanding, stages of thinking , and the characteristics of students. (4) The results of the preliminary study questionnaire show that as many as 44% of students have low critical thinking skills (5) The test results also show the flow of thinking with the level of students’ critical thinking skills in problem solving junior high school mathematics tends to be low. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that designing learning designs requires initial understanding, learning paths/learning trajectories, indicators of critical thinking skills which include analysis, clarification, problem solving strategies, evaluation with logical arguments and conclusions
