ANALISIS KEBUTUHAN PENDEKATAN PEMBELAJARAN MATEMATIKA REALISTIK UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN KOMUNIKASI SISWA

Abstract


Students' mathematical communication skills are the ability to organize mathematical thinking orally and in writing. Using a realistic mathematical approach is one technique to improve this skill. Student realities and experiences are used as starting points for learning in this approach, enabling students to develop their own formal mathematical knowledge by working through real-world challenges. This study aims to describe the need to use a realistic mathematics learning approach to improve students' mathematical communication skills. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The participants in this study were students of SMP N 1 Purwadadi, Subang, class VII-D. Interviews, observations, preliminary research questionnaires, and preliminary test questions of students' communication skills were used as instruments in this study. Data analysis in this study used the Miles and Huberman model consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that (1) as many as 28% of students had low mathematical communication skills, (2) as many as 57% of students still could not understand the story questions given, (3) there were only 7% of students who had high category mathematical communication skills so that can complete the test questions given, (4) most students are interested in learning mathematics using examples in everyday life. Based on these findings, it can be stated that realistic mathematics learning techniques should be used to improve students' mathematical communication skills.
