YOUNG LEARNERS AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES FOR ENGLISH EDUCATION

Abstract


Teaching English to young learners is an area of interest for many language researchers. Delving into various strategies such as incorporating digital technologies into English learning competencies could help improve students’ acquisition of knowledge. Therefore, this paper elaborates on some of the digital technologies that both teachers and students could use to further develop English education. The researcher used the qualitative method of research, utilizing the narrative literature review to present a comprehensive background on five (5) purposively chosen digital technologies in teaching English to young learners. Based on the findings, English education of young learners could be improved by using the following digital technologies: Quizlet for vocabulary development, Padlet for improving students’ grammar, Lyrics Training to enhance listening comprehension, Voki to train speaking ability, and Story Jumper to refine writing skills. The descriptions of each digital teachnology are backed up by actual research findings that may be found in publications that have been published in national and international journals all around the globe. To better create a comprehensive discussion on this topic, the researcher recommends to conduct further research into the use of digital technology in teaching English to young learners.
